Cluj Center for Indian Studies (CCIS) is dedicated to the research of Indian traditions, philosophies, languages and religions that render India as one of the most interesting and exciting cultures of the world. The center’s main objective is the promotion of Indian culture and its better comprehension through complete programs of education, research and publishing.
Cluj Center for Indian Studies developed cooperation with well-known universities in India (among them: University of Calcutta; Jadavpur University Kolkata; Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi; Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar; Indian Institute of Technology, Indore; Manipal Academy of Higher Education).
The center is not affiliated to any political movement or religious ideology. It is open to all those who wish to get acquainted with at least a part of the incredible culture of India.
Objectives / Activities:
Courses of Sanskrit and Hindi
Courses of history, culture and civilisation
Event organisation: conferences, seminars, book launches
Cultural events: photography exhibitions, documentaries, Indian classic music
Conference series: Indian Studies Lecture Series.
Publication of the Romanian Journal for Indian Studies (Cluj University Press), as a platform of disseminating the lectures hosted by the Center as well as the results of the young Romanian (and not only) researchers with interests in Indian studies.
Continuation of the Book Collection “Biblioteca Indiană” (“The Indian Library”), initiated in 2008 at Casa Cărții de Știință Publishing House in Cluj-Napoca, with essential titles and authors.
Application for national and international research programs and projects, and for the fundraising of high research, as well as reaching a high quality level of all the activities held by CCIS.
